Any lighting emergency situations call for one thing and that is high output powerful light
A light on a first response vehicle that isn't seen early enough by other road users is almost as bad as having no light at all on the vehicle. Poor lighting emergency vehicles will be unseen and more likely to be caught up in the incidents they are attending. First response vehicles may have different equipment and have different requirements but one thing remains constant the lights need to be highly visible. Any flashing light at the roadside or on the street draws our attention immediately and as such needs to be as visible as possible.
The most visible type of lighting emergency units tends to be the LED units. They are high output lights and the newer units can even be seen in extremely bright sunlight. Sunlight on some of the older units used to present somewhat of a problem as the sun rendered them virtually invisible. A light that is visible in sun, rain, fog and snow is obviously more effective than on seen in only half of those conditions. Night lighting can become a problem also as poor weather and very dark roads can make the lights poor to see.
The new units offer so many different varieties of color, size and function that there is something for every vehicle on the road that needs them. The first response vehicles are the immediate people that spring to mind when thinking of lighting emergency situations and in the main they are who will use them most. However, some municipal, utility and recovery vehicles will need some form of emergency lighting and there are units built with such uses in mind. With most of the lighting you will get mounting options and different power options.
With the lighting emergency units you will be offered a magnetic, suction or permanent fix and that is important when making your purchase. Some vehicles don't need a permanently fixed light as they are only used in a few situations and in that case a magnetic fixture may be best. Of course there are statewide rules and regulations about the driving with magnetically fixed lights so make sure you check them out before you fit any light. As to the power options most light units will operate directly from the vehicles cigarette lighter socket or they can be wired into the vehicles electrics.
The power output needed by lighting emergency situations are large and sometimes a scene needs to be totally illuminated via the vehicles in attendance. LED lighting is the perfect solution as it produces very little power drain on vehicle batteries yet gives high power lighting. Before buying any lighting for emergencies or vehicles you need to completely assess your needs. There is so much choice out there you need to get it right first time. Emergency lighting is crucial in some situations and the right lighting can literally be a lifesaver.
